The earliest records of the cathedral’s foundations are dated as early as 1058. The coronation of Henry III took place beneath the impressive stain glass windows. The cathedral was recently used as a shooting location for several Harry Potter films.

The capital development programme from 2019, including the renovation of 15th Century Lady Chapel, required stainless steel floor boxes to be recessed into the ancient stone floor.
