Requirement for high quality floor boxes

Selfridges have continued to use Cableduct’s 700 series floor boxes throughout their store since their launch in 2000. Since each concession does its own interior design, the services requirement varies considerably, as does the floor finish.

Cableduct’s 700 series range of boxes is large enough to accommodate all the required variations, and yet still maintain a similar overall look to maintain corporate commonality. Although all from out standard 700 series range, each concession has chosen a variety of sizes (one, two, three or four compartments); finishes (Stainless Steel, Brass, and with or without trim flange); and lid finish (to suit stone, wood, vinyl, carpet, resin or even with a flat lid). They have been fitted by a number of different contractors

Following the suitability of the floor box for the London store, when the new Birmingham store was designed by Arup, Cableduct’s 700 series floor boxes were specified. The Mechanical & Electrical installation was done by Haden Young.

The original design was using 3 compartment stainless steel floor boxes with 12mm recess to suit a ceramic tile. Having already placed the order with Cableduct for the floor boxes to suit, the specification was then changed from ceramic tiles to resin to be used for the finished floor. We then adapted the boxes so that instead of the 12mm recess being provided as ordered, a 4mm recessed stainless steel lid was provided, with sealant to prevent the liquid resin seeping into the lid hinging mechanism when poured. The majority of the boxes provided were the SBOX-738-STST with 4mm recess, but single and 3 compartment boxes with a flat stainless steel lid were also supplied in other sublet locations of the store.
